Illinois based Dr. Mark Holterman specializes in general surgery and pediatric surgery. Mark holds a B.A in Biology from Yale University, an MD and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Dr. Mark has over 29 years experience in the medical field and is a University of Illinois College of Medicine professor of Surgery and Pediatrics.

Dr. Mark Holterman did his residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences. Currently, he serves as a Pediatrician Surgeon at OFS. Before, Dr. Mark was the chief surgeon at the Advocate Christ Children Hospital. Between 2000 and 2012 he was an attending pediatric surgeon at Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Mark is a member of the American Diabetes Association, a non-profit spearheading research, advocacy, and education activities linked to prevention, treatment, and cure of diabetes. ADA support several programs and partners with other organizations to realize its mission. ADA collaborates with the American Psychological Association for the Mental Health Provider Diabetes Education Program.
The rationale of the program is to educate and mentor mental health professionals who provide psychological care for conditions associated with diabetes management. Practitioners take on a five-hour online course and a seven-hour seminar. After completion, the ADA website lists the professionals to enable individuals seeking treatment to locate them. The Helmsley Charitable Trust finance the program through an 839-million dollar grant. Dr. Mark Holterman is a recipient of the American Diabetes Association Innovative Research Award. Over the years he has received several other accolades including the Patients Choice Award, Compassionate Doctor Recognition, On time Doctor Award and America’s Top Doctor Award. Dr. Mark’s experience in medicine and research makes him aware of the challenges of bench-to-bedside medical approach. Nevertheless, he is optimistic about the impact of advancements in technology in providing therapeutic care for an array of diseases.
